While completing her degree, she also worked at the YMCA of Western Ontario as an After School Youth Leader, where she gained experience working with children who have exceptional needs such as ADHD, learning difficulties, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Stuttering. Afterwards, she obtained a Graduate Certificate in Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) at Durham College.
The Crystal Ladder Learning Centre is where Janicka successfully completed her placement for her Graduate Certificate. During the placement period, she developed her skills in providing speech and language therapy, ABA/IBI therapy, behaviour management, crisis prevention and various calming techniques that are especially effective for children with anxiety. After her program completion, she immediately began working as both a Behaviour Therapist and Communicative Disorders Assistant. She works with both children who communicate using verbal expression as well as Augmentative & Alternative Communication such as PECS, LAMP, and Proloquo2Go. The Crystal Ladder Learning Centre is also where she met Erin, Meagan and many remarkable children!
